Graduate Credit

In order for you to receive graduate credit for work satisfactorily completed at KU, the following conditions must be met:

  1. You have been admitted to a program, school, or College for graduate study.
  2. Courses taken are numbered 500-level or above and have been approved for graduate credit by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences or the appropriate professional school.
  3. Course instructors are authorized to teach at the graduate level.

If you are a non-degree-seeking students admitted to a particular program, school, or College you will earn graduate credit for courses taken even though you are not working toward a credential. General non-degree-seeking students without a program or school affiliation will not earn credit for courses taken. Per the Office of Graduate Studies' Graduate Credit policy, undergraduate coursework, even when you enroll as part of your graduate career, will not count for graduate credit or be factored into your cumulative graduate GPA.

In some cases, you may be able to use graduate coursework completed prior to the start of your graduate program to fulfil some of your degree requirements. To find out more about counting previous graduate credit towards your program's degree requirements explore the information below.
