Graduate Student Professional Development and Career Advising Services
Personalized Services Available:
Graduate Students in the College can request individual graduate career or professional development advising. These appointments can assist graduate students with career exploration (for non-academic career paths), discuss job search preparation, and workshop the building and revising of job search documents, such as Resume or Cover Letters.
These services are provided by the Assistant Director of COGA, Brittney Tyler-Milholland. Brittney Tyler-Milholland manages professional development programming and preparation services for graduate students in the College, with the exception of students in SPAA*.
To request an advising appointment:
Step 1: Explore the following resources
For students that are exploring career paths and opportunities outside of the academic path, Imagine PhD is a fantastic resource, particularly for PhD students in the humanities and social sciences. This resource provides free access to career-related skills assessment and exploration of non-academic career paths appropriate for the disciplines of your program.
Beyond Graduate School is a resource designed for Master’s students and offers courses related to career development and explores the foundations of a successful job search, among other live trainings available. Beyond the Professoriate is a resource for PhD students exploring career opportunities available with their degree, career exploration courses, and live events/trainings. Finally, Interstride is a platform that provides materials and workshops, as well as internships/jobs for international students, or domestic students seeking opportunities abroad.
Students interested in scheduling an appointment with the Assistant Director of COGA are highly encouraged to explore the appropriate resources prior to a meeting. Each resource provides foundational skills and initial steps for students seeking career and professional development.
